The Wild West of Spiritual Terrain: The Crown Chakra

I am calling the Crown Chakra “the Wild West” of spiritual terrain because it is a mysterious, “wild” area of consciousness. One can channel blissful, ecstatic experiences or potentially destabilizing forces here. Forcing too much energy through the crown chakra is not a good idea. This is an energy center that should be approached with respect and caution. Ideally, you have a strong spiritual protector or guide.

The Crown Chakra

The crown chakra, sarashara, is located at the top of one’s head and is also known as the thousand-petaled lotus. It is associated with the color violet and with spiritual enlightenment.

Sarashara represents our connection with the divine. Where as muladhara (the root) symbolizes our connection to the material world, sarashara symbolizes our connection to the spiritual realm.

Some Western religious traditions are against, skeptical of, and/or silent on the topic of the chakras. I imagine that the sarashara chakra has something to do with any strongly charged feelings against exploring such themes.

The sarashara is a bit like forbidden fruit. This is a potentially powerful energy center and can be overwhelming for an untrained practitioner. It can also be used for selfish/manipulative purposes.

Sarashara can be flooded with energy (known as the movement of kundalini in some circles), during times of great emotional stress/upheaval or by using psychedelic substances.

Signs of a well-balanced crown chakra are peacefulness, a feeling of connection with all that is, and spiritual understanding. Ill-balanced: ego-mania, Christ complex, psychosis, paranoia, fear, feelings of doom.

Tips for Balancing Sarashara

Pray. Quiet your mind. Observe your ego. Surrender your will to God.

Ground into the present moment. Anchor into your physical form.

Lean not on your own understanding. 🙏
