Deeper Vision w/ The 3rd Eye Chakra
I’ve been off of social media for a week and a few days. It’s been interesting to experience the mini-void and restlessness, and channel that into spiritual devotion or concentrated projects. I don’t intend to be quiet forever. My intention is to go deeper in, bringing with me all of the energy gathered from this time of spiritual renewal with greater insight and direction as I travel my journey of freedom.
In contemplation of the Divine, yogis and aesthetics meditate and fast, withdrawing their attention from the noisy world of sensory stimuli to turn their inner vision inward. Religious devotees turn their spiritual eye toward God or a holy figure or a prayer.
It’s all based on the philosophy that there is more to reality than meets the eye. Developing this inner vision is what the brow chakra, or third eye, is all about.
The Brow Chakra
The brow chakra, third eye, or ajna, is located between the eyebrows (or between and just above) and is associated with a deep, blue-purple color. That is, the indigo shade of these e-mails.
While the other “chakra colors” I know through reading and study, this one I have personally seen. I will never forget the first time I saw a beautiful sphere of indigo light during a deeply relaxing massage. I was about 19 years old.
I thought it was quite beautiful and have enjoyed the other glimpses I have had. I experience sensations in this chakra during deep study or concentration as well. I very often become lucid in dreams.
These experiences can all be related to the functioning of ajna.
Ajna is the realm of imagination, wisdom, intuition, vision, dream, telepathy, insight, and symbolism.
Balanced and well-functioning, it represents our ability to understand, know, and see beyond surface appearances. We are able to receive messages from our deeper knowing and act on them in compassionate, mindful ways.
Imbalanced and ill-functioning, this chakra can express as obsession and nightmares. This is an imagination in overdrive and suggests the energy in this chakra is running too hot.
Look out for limiting beliefs or illusions you hold about yourself or others. Ask yourself if you can really know these things are true. Look deeply at the belief and see if you can dissolve it with the light of your awareness.
Tips for Balancing Ajna
The mantra “Om” is associated with the brow chakra. It can be quite calming to take some deep breaths and chant this syllable with long, slow vocalizations. If you feel uncomfortable chanting, here’s a YouTube video you can listen to or play in the background. You can also sit with closed eyes and gently meditate on the area. Headstands or any yogic postures where the forehead touches the ground, such as “child’s pose” can also be helpful.
